How Digestion Takes Place Inside the Body? - Edu Foundation

HOW DIGESTION TAKES PLACE INSIDE THE BODY? When the food enters into the body, It becomes wet by the contact of water and saliva. Saliva contain an enzyme called salivary amylase which breaks down the complex starch into simple sugar. Then it moves into the food pipe or Oesophagus. Rhythmic contraction and relaxation apply force to move food forward. These rhythmic contraction and relaxation of foodpipe is called peristaltic Movement. Opposite movement of this, known as Anti-peristaltic Movement occurs sometimes inside our body during vomiting. Anyway, Then the food moves into the stomach. Gastric glands are present in the walls of the stomach which release hydrochloric acid, protein digesting enzyme called pepsin and mucus. The hydrochloric acid creates an acidic medium of food which facilitates the action of enzyme pepsin. The mucus protects the inner lining of the stomach from the hydrochloric acid. Then the food moved into the small intestine. The exit of food is regulated...

What is Decomposition Reaction? - Edu Foundation

DECOMPOSITION REACTION Decomposition reaction is nothing but the reaction in which a single reactant splitted into simpler products. As heat is required to decompose a molecule, This reaction is also called as endothermic reaction. Decomposition reaction is carried out by three ways: 1. By applying direct heat from sources like Bunsen Burner, etc. Activity-1 In order to illustrate decomposition reaction, heat a few crystals of ferrous sulphate (green in colour) taken in a dry test tube over the flame of a burner. Intially, the crystals change to a dirty white solid. Actually, the crystals have the chemical formula FeSO4.7H2O and the hydrated salt is known as Green vitriol. Upon heating, they lose the molecules of water to form FeSO4. It is an anhydrous salt with dirty white colour.                                   (Heat)       FeSO4.7H2O (s)  ->  ...

Combination Reaction - Edu Foundation

COMBINATION REACTION The reaction in which two reactants combined with each other to form a single product under suitable conditions is called combination reaction. In this reaction, Release of heat takes place for which it is also called as exothermic reaction. Oxidation reaction is also called combination reaction as it involves combination of one element with oxygen. Combination reactions are quite often known as synthesis because in these reactions, new substances are synthesised. All the compounds which are formed as a result of the combination reactions, are actually synthesised. Illustration of a combination reaction with the help of an activity: In order to illustrate a combination reaction, take about 2g to 3g of calcium oxide (also called quick lime) in a glass beaker. Pour water over it very slowly. What do you observe? The reaction is highly vigorous as well as exothermic. It is accompanied by hissing noise and bubbles. In fact, solution initially starts boili...

What is Chemical Reaction? - Edu Foundation

What is chemical reaction? The reactions which are not reversible are called chemical reactions . They are chemically changed. Before we understand the significance of a chemical change, let us demonstrate it with the help of a few activities. ACTIVITY-1 We are all familiar with the phenomenon of rusting of iron. When articles made up of iron are left exposed in air for a long time, a brown patch or layer appears on their surface. This is known as rust. In order to demonstrate rusting, place a few nails of iron in a glass tube. Pour some water in it and place a rubber cork on its mouth. Leave the tube undisturbed for a few days, Brown deposit will appear on the surface of the nails. On analysis, it is found to be hydrated ferric oxide (fe2o3.xH2o) and is formed as a result of chemical reaction which iron undergoes with water and oxygen (present in air in the empty space). ACTIVITY-2 In two separate glass beakers, dissolve small amount of lead nitrate and...

How Graphite Conducts Electricity? - Edu Foundation

How graphite conducts electricity? -> Carbon has three types of allotropes. one is diamond, second one is graphite and third is buckminsterfullerene (c-60). Diamond and Graphite has more dangling bonds than Buckminsterfullerene at the edges. This is the reason for which Buckminsterfullerene (c-60) is the purest allotrope of carbon. Graphite is slippery to touch and is able to conduct electricity due to the presence of one free electron which is not participated in bond formation. In graphite, double bond contains two types of bonds. One is sigma bond and another is pi bond. Single bond contains only sigma bond. Sigma bonds are strong in nature while pi bonds are weak. They are weak because the electrons which form pi bonds, always replace each other from their own position. That movement helps in the movement of ions. As ions are carrier of charge, Graphite is able to conduct electricity. If you have still any doubt, then comment in the doubt box.

Siphon Hydroelectric Power Plant - Edu Foundation

Abstract: The invention relates to the siphon hydroelectric power plant which aimed to provide non-polluting, safe, economically feasible and industrially accessible source of energy. It comprises: atleast three tanks which are placed in a row and later filled with water, two siphon pipes which pumps water from the tanks, a turbine is placed just above the middle tank, two connecting pipes are placed at the lower portion of the power plant project which make a connection between the tanks. Claims (6): The apparatus for obtaining siphon hydroelectric energy comprising two large tanks of equal size and another tank placed in the middle which is slightly smaller than the first two. The apparatus of claim 1 further includes atleast two siphon pipes so that water can be taken from the large equal tanks into the middle tank. The apparatus of claim 1 and 2 further includes two connecting pipes at the lower portion of power plant in order to maintain the level of water in all the ta...

Motion - Edu Foundation

As we all know, motion means movement. The motion or movement is one of the vital signs of life in an organism. For example, animals and humans can move their body parts or they can move from one place to another without any external help. Non living things cannot move on their own. We have to apply some external force to move them. For example, a scooter, a car, a bus and a truck move on the road when force is applied on them by their engines. Motion The motion of an object is perceived when its position changes continuously with respect to some stationary object. What is the main difference between Mechanics and Kinematics? - Mechanics deal with the motion of non-living objects as like as Kinematics. But Kinematics deal with the motion without taking into account the cause of their motion. An object may appear to be moving to one person and the same object may appear to be at rest to another person. For example- when a bus is moving on a road, 1. the roadside t...
